Ann Becker (Behravesh)

Cheryl and I were good friends through most of junior high and high school. We spent hours just hanging out, and we knew that if either of asked the other to get together to play tennis, what we really wanted was to walk to the tennis courts, hit the ball a few times, then spend the rest of the afternoon walking and talking. We kept in touch through college (Cheryl was one of the first women to graduate from Union College) but then only saw each other occasionally after that. She died in 1994 of ovarian cancer at the age of 43. Her mother sent me a lovely note after Cheryl died saying how much Cheryl had enjoyed her sixteen years of working as a Physician’s Assistant at Albany Memorial Hospital, and how supportive her colleagues on the staff were during her fifteen month illness. She also wrote that both Cheryl and I would be pleased that the donation I made in Cheryl’s memory would go to the Albany Memorial Foundation to establish a scholarship fund in her memory.

Cheryl Beranek, Born 10 November 1951, Died 31 December 1994.

From Social Security Death Index, with condolences from Richard Hayes Phillips.

I loved Cheryl Beranek.  We were classmates beginning in kindergarten.  I had more girl friends in grade school than at any time since, and Cheryl was one of them.

I ran away from home one time, with good reason, and it was Cheryl who took me in.  Her mother let me stay for a good while before calling my parents to let them know where I was.

Her yearbook photo captures her essence beautifully.
