Lorraine Tansky Obituary - Albany, NY | Albany Times Union

SCHENECTADY Lorraine J. Tansky, 53, of Schenectady passed away Sunday, October 30, 2005. Born in Schenectady on December 8, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Tansky and Lydia Cusano Tansky. She began her employment as an art teacher in Shenendehowa School District. She later went on to the Schenectady City School District, most recently at the Sayles School of Fine Arts where she was on the planning committee for its building design and was a teacher resource leader. Lorraine's contribution to Schenectady High School and the lives of students she touched will have a lasting impact. Lorraine was a member and building director of the Schenectady Federation of Teachers and supervised student teachers from several area colleges for many years. Additionally, she was a member of New York State Art Teacher's Association, a member of the planning committee for the Annual High School Regional Competition and participated in Skidmore Summer Six Ceramics program for many years. An accomplished artist, Lorraine's artwork has been exhibited in various local and regional galleries including Firlefanz Gallery in Albany, Aimee's Lobby Gallery in Glens Falls and the Cyclics Show in Schenectady. Survivors include her mother, Lydia Cusano Tansky of Schenectady; her brother, Richard Tansky and his wife Marianne of Aiken, S.C.; her sister, Kathryn Scharl and her husband Karl of Voorheesville, N.Y.; her nephew, Christian Scharl of Colonie; her aunt, Lorraine Tansky St. John and her husband George and a host of cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 6 p.m. at Light's Funeral Home, 1428 State St., Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Schenectady City Schools-Lorraine Tansky Art Scholarship Fund, 108 Education Drive, Schenectady, NY 12308.
