Ralph G. Mulligan, 63, entered into eternal rest and into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, on November 13, 2015. He was a resident of Johnstown, NY and passed away at Mountain Valley Hospice, in Gloversville. Ralph put up a strong and valiant fight for many years, over coming many medical issues.
Ralph was born on November 25, 1951. He was the son of the late Floyd and Elizabeth Sackett Mulligan. Ralph married Jayne Morey Nellis on August 24, 1974. She was the love of his life and celebrated 41 years of marriage. They met when Jayne was in high school and their love flourished. Ralph was most proud of his girls; Erin Lea Mulligan of Sun Valley, California, and Wendy Palmer and her husband Todd, of Gloversville, NY.
Ralph was employed at the local Volkswagen dealership in Johnstown. He then went on to work at Hupkes small engine repair shop in Johnstown. Ralph also worked for Coleco Industries, until it went out of business. His last job was for the Daily Gazette, in Schenectady, where he was an associate printer. He also owned and operated his own limo service and construction company working on many local roads.
Ralph lived by the motto “Help Others Before Self.” He was a master mechanic for many years where he learned skills for also fixing and repairing modified stock cars for his good buddy, Bruce Dostal. Ralph ensured the race car was always in race-ready condition for competing at our area speedways. He volunteered many late night hours to work in, on and under Bruce’s race car, all after working a tiring, long day’s shift. Ralph was not only the team’s Crew Chief who was obsessed with doing quality work, but was also dedicated, trusted and respected friend who will be surely missed.
Ralph graduated from Linton High School, in Schenectady NY in 1969. When he became disabled he returned to college and graduated from FMCC in 1997. He then went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Psychology at SUNY, Albany in the year 2000; graduating just 6 days before his daughter Erin received her Bachelor’s Degree.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Jayne; his sisters, Harriet Nellis and her husband Howard, of Johnstown, NY, Myrtle Servidas (and the late Benjamin Servidas, Sr) of West Allis, WI; A brother, Charles B. Mulligan Sr. from Brewster, NY; two grandsons Zachary and Riley Palmer also survive. Ralph has many nieces, nephews and cousins that survive. Ralph is also survived by his aunt, Virginia Sackett of Johnstown.
Ralph was very close to Jayne’s family. He is survived by; Sister-in-loves, Judy Palmateer and her husband Roy, of Gloversville, NY; Janet Annan of Piseco and Florida (and the late Charles “Eddie” Annan); Mary Lynn Linstruth and her husband Bill of Utica, NY.
