Denise E. Sankowski, 67, of Glenville, passed peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 surrounded by loving family.
Born in Niskayuna, Denise was the daughter of the late Charles and Janet Johnson Smith. She graduated from Linton High School and was a member of the first graduating class at SCCC . She went on to receive her degree in Education from SUNY Plattsburgh. Denise loved teaching and worked for 33 years as a teacher at the Joseph Henry Elementary School in Galway, retiring in 2007.
Denise was a longtime member of 1st Presbyterian Church in Schenectady. She also taught Sunday school at East Glenville Community Church and ran the VBS program there for several years. As a more recent member of Faith Baptist Church she was a volunteer with the food pantry and enjoyed quilting with friends at the church. Denise was always willing to help a friend or family in need. Her compassion for others was evident in everything that she did.
Denise was devoted to her family, her faith and blessed to have many dear friends. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Walter W. Sankowski, two daughters, Carrie (John) Pearson of Glenville and Christie (Keith Nicholson) Sankowski of Glenville, her sister, Cindy Hofer of Scotia and her beloved grandchildren, Emily, Abigail and Quinn.
Calling hours will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 pm at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville, followed by funeral services at 8pm, at the funeral home.
